Does Mercury Still Make Cars?

There are a lot of car brands around nowadays, but there were more in the past. A lot of those old brands didn't make it and sold to other companies or folded. Mercury was one of those companies. It was founded in 1938 and sold a variety of cars, but they were mostly luxury models.

They weren't as luxurious as cars from Ford's other brand, Lincoln, but they were more luxurious than a regular Ford. A Mercury car was a compromise between being practical and high-end.

Ford reports that Mercury, a car company that was popular for many years, had some hits and some flops. One of its most popular models was the Grand Marquis. However, like all companies that went out of business, Mercury stopped making cars because not enough people were buying them.

By the late 2000s, Mercury wasn't selling enough cars to stay in business, so Ford announced the brand would end when the last model rolled off the production line in January 2011.

Mercury made their last car, the Grand Marquis. It was the best selling car and it had been around for a long time. The last version of the Grand Marquis was not really different from what people knew, but they loved that car. People would say: "They don't make them like they used to."

Despite being a sedan, the Grand Marquis was a large car that could comfortably seat its passengers. On top of that, it could seat a half-dozen people because it had two rows of bench seats. Some options gave the Grand Marquis five seats, with the front row being the standard bucket seats.

Regardless of the number of seats, they all boasted leather upholstery. The Grand Marquis also offered other luxury options such as heated seats and real woodgrain accents.

Old-school luxury, but not very powerful

The Mercury Grand Marquis was a big car. It had a lot of space in the trunk. That's more than other cars at the time. 20.6 cubic feet is a lot! But it wasn't just good because of its size. It also had an old-fashioned design inside and drove that way, too. Some people liked it because it drove bad like older cars did. But others didn't like it for that reason! The V8 engine in the car wasn't very powerful, though.

This car would go very fast. It had a V8 engine that made 224 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. That is not as big as an engine now. It also got 19 mpg combined, which is not good for gas prices now. The 2011 Grand Marquis is better, because it has a bigger engine and it uses less gas than the older ones did.
